Microsoft Office 365

Office 365 is a cloud-based suite of productivity tools by Microsoft that includes apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Teams. It allows users to create, collaborate, and communicate from virtually anywhere, offering both web-based and desktop versions of the software alongside storage options, built in security tools, device management, and access management.

O365 A1 & A5 Features

NMSU provides two types of licenses — A1 and A5 Licenses. These are education specific licenses that provide users access to Microsoft’s productivity and collaboration tools.

  • A5 licenses are given to Faculty, Staff and Affiliates of the University
  • A1 licenses Retirees of the University

NMSU owned devices and personal devices can be used to access the various features offered by either the A1 or A5 licensure. We strongly encourage Staff and Faculty to avoid using personal devices.

Setup/Installation Instructions

How to access O365 (Email, Apps, OneDrive)

Please go to my.nmsu.edu and click on the ‘Email & Collaboration’ tab. From there, click on ‘Office 365 Apps’, where a new tab will open up to m365.cloud.microsoft, and you can access all the apps via your web browser (Copilot is also included).

How to download Office365 Apps (A5 License users)

Follow the instructions above to get to m365.cloud.microsoft, and on the right hand side of the window should be a blue button that says ‘Install Apps’, click on that and select the option ‘Microsoft 365 apps’ from the drop down menu. Another window will open up, and under ‘Office apps & Devices’ should be a button that says ‘Install Office’, and from there you can download the installer and install O365.
