Self-troubleshoot common classroom tech issues before submitting a ticket
Check that the room control panel is powered on and the correct input is selected. Ensure the room's main power switch (usually near the door) is on. If using a laptop, confirm the cable is fully seated. Wait 30 seconds after powering on before assuming it's failed.
Try pressing Win+P (Windows) or System Preferences → Displays (Mac) and select "Duplicate" or "Extend." Make sure you have the correct adapter for your laptop port (HDMI, USB-C, etc.). Swap cables if available. If using a wireless presenter, ensure it's paired — see the Wireless Presentation guide above.
Check room volume on the control panel and ensure it is not muted. On your laptop, verify audio output is set to the classroom system (not your laptop speakers). If using Zoom/Teams, confirm the correct audio output is selected within the app settings.
Rooms equipped for video conferencing have a dedicated camera and mic. Launch Zoom/Teams on the classroom PC or connect your laptop. In the app, select the room camera and room microphone as your input devices. See the Video Conferencing guide above for room-specific steps.
Hold the power button on the panel for 10 seconds to force a restart. Allow 60 seconds to reboot. If it remains unresponsive, the AV rack processor may need a restart — contact us for assistance rather than touching equipment inside the rack.
Use the "Get a Quote" request type in our ticketing system. Describe the technology or need and we'll follow up with options and pricing. Large-scale installs go through a planning process — contact us early in the semester for the best scheduling.
